North Yorkshire Scouts provide Scouting in England's largest County and has a total membership of 7820, made up of 6417 youth members supported by 1403 adult volunteers. We welcome new members, young or old, to join us in our great adventure!

The Scout County is made up of 14 Scout Districts each comprising a number of Scout Groups

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

With the support of over 2000 adult volunteers, North Yorkshire Scouts provides skills for life to over 6000 young people in England's largest county. Our county spans major towns and cities such as York, Harrogate, and Scarborough, as well as rural communities in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

There are 12 Districts within North Yorkshire – these are the areas which comprise several Scout Groups within the county. This results in a further subdivide of more than 100 groups offering everyday adventure to young people, both male and female, in almost 500 sections. The sections consist of Squirrel Scouts, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Network.

The role of the county is to provide support to the districts and groups in a variety of areas, with the ultimate goal of enabling our local volunteers to deliver fun and engaging programmes for their young people.

Safeguarding the welfare of our youth members

The Scout Association takes seriously its responsibilities to safeguard the welfare of children and young people.

The Scout Association is committed to:

• taking into account in all its considerations and activities the interests and well-being of young people
• respecting the rights, wishes and feelings of the young people with whom it is working
• taking all reasonable practicable steps to protect them from neglect and from physical, sexual and emotional harm
• promoting the welfare of young people within a relationship of trust  

The Scout Association believes that safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all the young people we work with is the
responsibility of everyone.

The Association's 'Young People First' code of good practice is published in the form of a pocket size yellow card that all adults
are asked to keep with them. This contains information about how to report concerns or allegations of abuse and also a code of
behaviour that all adults are required to follow.

Anti-Bullying Policy

Children and young people have the right to protection from all forms of violence - physical or mental
(UN Convention on the Rights of the Child).

The Scout Association is committed to ensuring, as far as it reasonably practicable, the prevention of all forms of
bullying among Members.

It is the responsibility of all adults in Scouting to help develop a caring and supportive atmosphere, where
bullying in any form is unacceptable. To this end, all Scouting activities should have rigorous anti-bullying strategies in place.
